Phillips admits contract doubts

Phillips admits contract doubts May 06 2008

West Brom's top scorer Kevin Phillips cannot guarantee that he will be at The Hawthorns next season.

The 34-year-old striker has been in impressive form for Albion, finding the net 22 times in the league to help Tony Mowbray's side to the Championship title and promotion back to the Premier League.

He is out of contract this summer and negotiations have been ongoing for several months but it appears Phillips and the club are no closer to reaching an agreement.

The veteran hitman knows his new deal will be the last of his career and has confirmed he would like a two-year contract.

"I am not going to say I will definitely be around," Phillips told the Daily Telegraph. "There are other options. Nobody is stupid about that.

"This going to be my last contract and it needs to be right. I would like two years. I am not going to sign just for the sake of it."
