Ipswich have launched an appeal against Pablo Counago's sending off in Saturday's victory against Scunthorpe.

Jim Magilton had initially criticised his striker, who faces a three-match ban after being sent off for violent conduct in altercations with Irons duo Jack Cork and Andy Butler.

But after seeing the incident again Town have appealed, and Magilton told the club's official website: "We have looked at the video and it's 'handbags' at best.

"We think we have grounds for appeal and will be putting together video evidence to back our case.

"I think the referee could have pulled the two of them [Counago and Cork] together and told them to 'grow up' and left it at that."

Magilton has also cleared Counago of the allegation that he spat in the face of Scunny defender Butler.

"I would come down hard on any player that I feel is guilty of spitting in the face of a fellow pro but Pablo says that he didn't do that and I believe him. He doesn't lie and I will stand up for him."
