Midfielder Darrel Russell revealed how he had got off his sick bed to help the Norwich cause against Colchester.

Russell returned to the Canaries midfield to play his part in the 5-1 thumping of Colchester.

He said: "I felt pretty terrible on Saturday morning to be honest, I was full of cold but I was keen to play. And when the manager asked me if I was up to it I said yes.

"It was a great result for the boys, a massive result and as the gaffer says it's been coming for a little while. We managed to take our chances and got our just reward."

Russell was full of praise for Jamie Cureton, who scored a hat-trick against his former club.

He said: "Jamie has shown what he can do. He's missed a few recently, but generally when he gets the chances he puts a good number of them away.

"That's exactly what happened and now he's got another ball for his collection. I should imagine he's got quite a few of them tucked away at home."
