Rosenior: We can avoid the drop March 18 2008

Liam Rosenior remains confident that Reading can avoid relegation even though the club are just three points clear of the drop zone.

The 23-year-old defender says that the Royals know how crucial Saturday's clash against fellow relegation strugglers Birmingham will be.

However, he explained that Steve Coppell wants his side to accumulate 12 points in their remaining fixtures.

"Saturday's game is a big one, but they all are," he told the club's official website.

"With 24 points available, we want to get 12, then we know we'll be safe."

Prior to the defeat to Liverpool, the Berkshire club secured consecutive wins against Middlesbrough and Manchester City to halt their slide into the danger zone.

Nonetheless, the former Fulham right-back says his team-mates can take heart from their performance at Anfield.

He said: "Looking at the performance at Liverpool, I'd be surprised if we don't manage to do it. 40 (points) is the aim, then we won't have to rely on favours from anybody else.

"This is the top league in the world, and we're good enough to be here, I'm sure we will still be here.

"We've got six points from three games and to me that's Championship-winning form. If we keep that going to the end of the season we'll be fine."
