Lowe back on board at St Mary's

Lowe back on board at St Mary's May 17 2008

Rupert Lowe has completed his return to power at Southampton, two years after his acrimonious removal from the boardroom, by being named executive chairman at the Championship club.

The 50-year-old is joined on the board of Southampton Leisure Holdings plc, Saints' parent company, by Michael Wilde - who is also installed as chairman of the football board.

Wilde was the man who ousted the controversial Lowe in 2006, only to resign himself seven months later having failed to find the investment he promised.

At the end of another turbulent week on the south coast, legendary former Saints manager Lawrie McMenemy has quit as director, along with fellow board member Mary Corbett.

Andrew Cowen, who was managing director under Lowe, and finance director David Jones make up the rest of the new-look board after the resignation of chairman Leon Crouch.

Crouch stood down rather than face an inevitable defeat in the EGM which was requisitioned by Wilde and Lowe, who between them control 46% of the shares in the St Mary's outfit.
