Preston midfielder Chris Sedgwick will undergo surgery during the summer in a bid to cure a hernia problem.
The 28-year-old is expected to be sidelined for between four and six weeks but should be fit for the start of pre-season training.
Club physio Matt Radcliffe said: "The recovery time from this sort of surgery can be anything from two to six weeks so he'll be back for pre-season barring any complications.
"He's had a previous hernia done before on one side, the other side needs doing so it's more of a case having the surgery now and getting it sorted before it becomes a problem next season."
Meanwhile, North End have announced their first pre-season fixtures of the 2008/09 campaign with a double-header against Bamber Bridge and Chorley on Tuesday, July 15.
