Veteran raises Hodge's ire

Hodgson hits out at Litmanen March 28 2008

Fulham boss Roy Hodgson finds it strange that veteran striker Jari Litmanen has managed to play for his country but not his club.

The Finland international has yet to feature for the Cottagers since his arrival on transfer deadline day in January, while he has hardly taken part in any training sessions due to fitness concerns.

However, the 37-year-old has already played twice for the Finns in that period, his most recent appearance coming in Wednesday night's 2-1 defeat in Bulgaria where he got on the scoresheet.

Hodgson is now hoping that Litmanen will show the same commitment to the Premier League strugglers and he has for his country.

He said: "Jari hasn't completed more than 10 per cent of the training sessions since I've been at the club. He hasn't played one game in a Fulham shirt and has played two matches for Finland.

"He has been injured but, strangely, the fitness periods seem to coincide with Finland matches. He hasn't done it yet for me in the two-and-a-half months I've been here.

"Now we have to wait and see if he can take part in one of our training sessions."
