Tim Cahill looks certain to miss the most crucial part of Everton's crusade for fourth place due to injury.
The Australian midfielder had to leave the field after a paltry 10 minutes following a reoccurrence of a foot injury in the 1-1 draw with West Ham at Goodison Park on Saturday evening.
And Cahill failed to feature in Australia's international friendly against China on Wednesday, sparking fears that the 28-year-old has aggravated the metatarsal fracture he contracted last March.
He has netted 10 goals since returning from the injury in November and has been influential for the Merseyside outfit.
Toffees manager David Moyes will face an uphill climb if his maestro is sidelined for the rest of the season.
Everton will undergo a tough test in the upcoming derby with arch-rivals Liverpool at Anfield - a trip Cahill will definitely miss - and will still need to encounter Chelsea and Arsenal in their bid to secure a Champions League spot.
