Ramos clarifies King comments

Ramos clarifies King comments April 19 2008

Tottenham head coach Juande Ramos fully expects Ledley King to be at White Hart Lane at the start of next season.

Ramos could name a new club captain when the campaign is over but he insists that is not related to King's future at Spurs.

The Spaniard told the club's official website: "Friday's newspapers made a great deal out of my comments concerning Ledley King, which were made in relation to him remaining as club captain next season.

"So there is no misunderstanding, Ledley is handling his recovery well and we fully expect him to be here at the start of next season."

Ramos wants to maintain his players' fitness when the season finishes by giving them a training plan for their summer break.

He has put emphasis on physical work since taking charge in October and intends to keep his squad fit ahead of his first full campaign.

There have been suggestions of end-of-season friendlies being part of the plan, but the north London club have yet to make an announcement.

"It is advisable for them to come back in a state of physical fitness when they start," said Ramos. "They will have a work plan but they will have freedom to do what they like when we see it fit."
