Magilton reveals Bent enquiry

Magilton reveals Bent enquiry March 20 2008

Ipswich manager Jim Magilton has revealed that he made a "cheeky enquiry" over the availability of Tottenham striker Darren Bent.

Bent has had an indifferent first season with Spurs and has failed to make a major impact since his big-money transfer from Championship side Charlton in the summer.

The England international has managed to find the net on six occasions in all competitions for the White Hart Lane club, and has made just nine Premier League starts.

That statistic is mainly down to the fine form of Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane, a partnership which new manager Juande Ramos has taken a liking to.

And it was that situation which prompted Magilton to make his move, however ridiculous it may have seemed.

Magilton told the club's official website: "Darren was having a tricky spell at Spurs and we made a cheeky enquiry.

"We want to bring in players that will raise the bar and Darren would obviously do that, but he's very much in the fold at Tottenham and it's not going to happen.

"We just asked the question."
