England goalkeeper David James has extended his current deal with Portsmouth until the summer of 2010.
The 37-year-old has enjoyed one of the best seasons of his career this term, helping Pompey to a place in the last four of the FA Cup.
His form between the posts has also helped Harry Redknapp's side establish themselves in the top half of the Premier League.
James found himself edged out of the international reckoning during Steve McClaren's unimpressive reign, but was handed an immediate recall by new England coach Fabio Capello when he led the side out against Switzerland in February.
The veteran keeper has now extended his contract at Fratton Park for a further two seasons, with an option of a further extension in 2010.
He told the club's official website: "It's been a tremendous week and I'm delighted to get the opportunity to sign a new contract.
"I'm enjoying being at Pompey - it's a fantastic environment. I never envisaged the club being in this position when I joined."
James has also enjoyed spells at Liverpool, Aston Villa, West Ham and Manchester City, collecting 36 England caps along the way.
