Magilton holds out Nugent hope

Magilton holds out Nugent hope February 23 2008

Ipswich boss Jim Magilton is expecting to hear "next week" whether his attempt to sign Portsmouth striker David Nugent has been successful.

Pompey have given permission for the 22-year-old to move to Portman Road on loan and Magilton is hopeful of landing him in a bid to strengthen Town's promotion push.

Magilton said: "Portsmouth have been great about it and said that David can come here until the end of the season.

"David has an injury though at the moment and wants to get that right. So there will be two factors in his decision. One is when he considers himself to be match-fit and the second is whether he wants to come here or not.

"I don't expect an answer from him until next week but it is a statement of intent that we have gone in for a player of his quality - a player who we believe can help us get across the line."
