Middlesbrough have been dealt a serious blow with news that Gary O'Neil will miss the rest of the season.
The midfielder, who made an impressive start to his first season with the Teessiders, picked up a knee injury during Boro's draw at Tottenham last weekend.
Scans revealed the 24-year-old damaged the lateral knee ligament which he has previously had surgery on. However, the former Portsmouth playmaker should be fit to return during pre-season.
Grant Downie of Boro's medical staff told Sky Sports: "The surgeon is happy that everything went well.
"It was a routine operation and he is expected to be available for pre-season training in the summer."
