Newcastle goalkeeper Shay Given is not expected to return to action this season despite making good progress with his groin injury.
The Republic of Ireland international hasn't played for the Magpies since coming off at half-time of the 5-1 demolition at the hands of Manchester United on February 23.
Given has missed the club's resurgence under Kevin Keegan in recent weeks, which has seen the Tynesiders go undefeated in their last five games, including three wins on the spin.
But the Toon manager is not about to rush back the experienced stopper for the last four games of the season and instead wants to make sure Given returns for the new campaign fully fit.
"I think he'll be fit by the end of the season and he'll train with us for maybe the last week or 10 days, but there's no sense for him to play a match," Keegan told the Newcastle Chronicle.
"He just needs to know by the end of the season that he's fit, ready to go away and come back fit for pre-season with all his problems behind him. I think that, for him, will be a massive relief."
