Ronaldo revels in Moscow chance

Ronaldo revels in Moscow chance May 01 2008

Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo declared "nothing could be better" after helping his side reach the UEFA Champions League final.

The Red Devils booked their place in Moscow thanks to Paul Scholes' 14th-minute goal against Barcelona on Tuesday night, which was enough to earn the Premier League leaders a 1-0 aggregate victory.

In the end, sheer grit and determination won out as heroic defending by every United player ensured the Catalan giants failed to score.

And Ronaldo now believes Sir Alex Ferguson's team can triumph in Moscow.

"We're in this competition to win it, as much as the league," the Portuguese star said.

"We took our opportunity and now we're in the final of the Champions League. Nothing could be better.

"We might have been able to play better but we won, we always win and now we have to do the same in the final and in the championship."

He added: "Barca played well but they didn't have many opportunities like us. I think we played well, created more chances and deserved to go through.

"Manchester always plays to win, the players want to win something this season and we have a great opportunity to win the Premier League and the Champions League.

"Now, we need to relax a little bit and do some good work and try to win."

Tuesday's clash had been billed as a straightforward duel between Barca star Lionel Messi and Ronaldo for the title of world's best player - with the pair having come second and third respectively in FIFA's official list earlier in the year.

Ronaldo was swift to play down the idea of any antagonism between the two, but could not resist a sly dig at his rival.

"A battle with Messi? I'm in the final and I hope to win," he added. "I don't have battles with anyone.

"I'm the top scorer in the Champions League and I hope to score more in the final."
