Marlon Harewood has vowed to win a regular first team spot at Aston Villa and propel them into Europe as he insisted: "I'd rather not be known as a super-sub."
The former West Ham player has made a massive impact when coming off the substitutes' bench in recent weeks.
He scored at Liverpool to inspire a comeback, tormented the Newcastle defence during the second half and on Sunday netted the decisive second goal in a 2-1 triumph at Reading to keep Villa on course for Europe.
It was another boost to his chances of persuading Villa manager Martin O'Neill to include him in his starting line-up.
Harewood said: "I want to play my part and I'd rather not be known as super-sub.
"I want to start the games, but I don't make the choices. Martin O'Neill picks the team and, wherever he puts me, I'll be happy to be part of it.
"It's hard to take when you're not playing but I'm experienced enough now to take it as it comes.
"There's no point getting irate about it. Once you go out on that pitch you just have to show what you can do."
Harewood added: "It was a big, big win against Reading and the way we've played this year has been awesome. Everyone is playing really well this season and we've just got to keep it going.
"We need to keep winning because we want to be as high up in the league as possible. We want to be up there with the top four or top six.
"My job is to go out there and play my part - whether that's off the bench or starting games.
"I've had the one experience of Europe with West Ham and it ended very quickly in the first round of the UEFA Cup so I'd like to put that right next season.
"Premier League clubs are doing well in Europe this season and we want some of that. We've got the quality here to do that."
