Benni: Savage has no skill at all

Benni: Savage has no skill at all May 03 2008

Blackburn striker Benni McCarthy says former team-mate Robbie Savage is technically the worst player he's ever seen.

Savage returns to Ewood Park this weekend with relegated Derby, who need maximum points from their final two games in the Premier League to beat Sunderland's record low of 15 set two years ago.

And while McCarthy admits the Lancashire club has been a duller place to be since the Welsh midfielder departed in January, he says Savage was never blessed with the greatest of ability.

The South African told The Daily Mail: "Sav is a fantastic boy and ever since he left the dressing room has gone awfully quiet.

"Even when the chips were down he always seemed to make everyone laugh, including the manager."

McCarthy added: "Technically, he is the worst player I have ever seen and he knows it but he just gives everyone that edge with his adrenaline.

"He knows he has no skill at all but he works awfully hard for the team and it makes us work even harder."
