Stoke have signed Derby midfielder Stephen Pearson on loan until the end of the season after receiving confirmation the deal has been approved.

The Potters held successful talks with the former Celtic man on Thursday and filed the neccessary paperwork to the Football Association and Football League before the 5pm deadline.

There were fears the transfer may have collapsed but the Championship leaders confirmed on Friday morning that it had been approved.

City chief executive Tony Scholes told the club's official website: "I am delighted to confirm the temporary signing of Stephen has been completed.

"He and Shola Ameobi will both be with us until the end of the season to help us in our final push."

Tony Pulis previously tried to sign Pearson when he was at Parkhead and the Stoke manager has remained a firm admirer of the 25-year-old since his £750,000 switch to Pride Park last year.
