FA Cup semi-final guide

FA Cup semi-final guide March 10 2008

With only one Premier League side left in the competition, the FA Cup semi-finals have an unfamiliar feel to them.

We take a closer look at the four teams left in the draw.

BARNSLEY

Simon Davey's side proved their 2-1 win over Liverpool at Anfield in the fifth round was no fluke and followed it up an impressive 1-0 win over holders Chelsea at Oakwell. Despite hovering four points above the Coca-Cola Championship relegation zone the Tykes will not fear anyone in their first appearance in the semi-finals since 1927.

CARDIFF

The FA Cup has provided a welcome distraction for Cardiff's faltering bid to reach the Coca-Cola Championship play-offs and their problems off the pitch. Bluebirds manager Dave Jones has urged his team to make their own piece of FA Cup history in their first semi-final appearance since their famous Cup victory of 1927.

PORTSMOUTH

As the Premier League's solitary representative left in the competition Harry Redknapp will fancy his chances of taking Portsmouth to their first FA Cup final since 1939. Pompey have overcome three potential shocks against lower league opposition as well as victory against Manchester United at Old Trafford which makes them favourites.

Key player: David James

WEST BROM

West Brom historically have a fine FA Cup tradition having won the competition five times and appeared in the final on 10 occasions. Albion manager Tony Mowbray will claim promotion is his main objective but as second favourites to lift the trophy the majority of Albion supporters may well be prepared to focus on the Cup.

Fourth round - Peterborough 0 West Brom 3
