Rangers v Zenit St Petersburg

Rangers v Zenit St Petersburg May 15 2008

Rangers midfielder Kevin Thomson is rated doubtful for Wednesday's UEFA Cup final against Zenit St Petersburg.

Thomson limped out of Saturday's SPL win over Dundee United with a foot injury which is still causing concern and will be assessed after training on Tuesday evening.

Steven Naismith (knee) and Allan McGregor (ankle) remain on the sidelines, while Daniel Cousin is suspended following his red card in the semi-final against Fiorentina.

As for the rest of the squad, manager Walter Smith admits shattering the dreams of those who do not make his team selection will be the toughest part of his job.

He said: "It's always difficult to leave players out, especially towards the end of the season when the games take on an extra level of importance.

"It's a difficult task for any manager but it's part and parcel of the job. It's not the nicest part of the job but it's essential.

"We have a group of players who this season have accepted that very well and not let it affect them at all. But it's still a difficult task."

Rangers squad: Alexander, Broadfoot, Weir, Cuellar, Papac, Whittaker, Davis, Ferguson, Novo, McCulloch, Darcheville, G Smith, Dailly, Hemdani, Thomson, Boyd, Faye, Adam.
