Ribery: The new Zidane?

Kahn: Ribery is our main man March 10 2008

Bayern Munich's charge to glory on four fronts this season is being led by France international Franck Ribery, who earned more praise after a week in which he almost single-handedly tore Anderlecht and Karlsruhe apart.

A goal from the winger in the UEFA Cup on Thursday and one more in the Bundesliga on Saturday leaves Ottmar Hitzfeld's side well on course for success in both competitions to add to the League Cup they have already won.

The Bavarians are also into the semi-finals of the DFB-Pokal, where they meet Wolfsburg later this month.

And most of the credit for such a successful campaign is being placed at the feet of the 24-year-old from Boulogne.

"He is a dream of a player and you could compare him with (Zinedine) Zidane," enthused goalkeeper Oliver Kahn.

Ribery arrived from Marseille last summer for 25 million euros, but according to general manager Uli Hoeness, not even an offer of twice that much would convince him to sell.

"You can group all your oil tycoons together, but we will not let the player leave," he said on DSF television.

Ribery's contract runs until 2011 and the player himself admitted his delight at the way he has settled in, despite a few problems with the cold weather over the last few months.

He said: "I feel happy in Munich and everybody loves me here."

And Bayern are happy to have him as they opened up a seven-point gap at the top of the Bundesliga on Saturday with 11 games of the season remaining.
