Rangers striker Daniel Cousin faces a month on the sidelines after an X-ray revealed he broke his jaw in Thursday's UEFA Cup win over Werder Bremen.
The 31-year-old will miss a run of crunch games including the last-16, second leg against Bremen, next weekend's CIS Insurance Cup final, Sunday's Scottish Cup clash with Hibernian and a run of SPL matches.
The Gers have other options in attack, but Cousin had looked set for a key role as Walter Smith's side continue their challenge for honours on four fronts.
Now the Gabon international must wait before he can contribute again to the Light Blues' campaign.
"This is the worst possible thing that could happen after breaking back into the team," he told the Scottish Sun.
"Hopefully I'll get back as quickly as possible so I can help the team to win trophies."
