Robbie Keane capped a superb performance with a goal as Tottenham won 1-0 at Reading to push them into the Premier League relegation zone.
Darren Bent had a couple of early opportunities to put Spurs ahead but he headed a Steed Malbranque's cross over the bar and fired straight at Marcus Hahnemann's legs after being played clean through in the 10th minute.
But Keane had Spurs ahead six minutes later, the Irishman running past Kevin Doyle and Liam Rosenior on the edge of the box before flicking into the far corner from 12 yards.
Malbranque had a goal wrongly ruled out for offside before half-time as the visitors dominated and the French midfielder should have put the game beyond doubt two minutes into the second half when he poked into the side-netting from close range.
Bent also struck a post for the north Londoners but Keane's goal proved enough.
