Newcastle 2 Fulham 0 March 22 2008

Goals from Mark Viduka and Michael Owen presented Kevin Keegan with his first win as Newcastle beat Fulham 2-0 at St James' Park on Saturday.

The hosts took the lead on six minutes when Viduka drove a left-footed shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

Obafemi Martins drew a fine save from Kasey Keller just as the Cottagers were beginning to take a foothold in the game.

The Magpies had a great chance to extend their lead on 35 minutes but Owen's close-range header bounced harmlessly into the grasp of the veteran American goalkeeper.

The Toon faithful grew increasingly tense as their team wasted opportunities to make the game safe but Owen made no mistake on 83 minutes when he nodded Geremi's free-kick past Keller, much to Keegan's delight.

The result moves the Tynesiders six points clear of the relegation zone. Fulham are four points from safety.
