Mikael Forssell repaid the faith shown in him by manager Alex McLeish as his hat-trick gave Birmingham a 4-1 win over Tottenham at St Andrews.
City took the lead in the seventh minute when James McFadden's cross-shot was headed in by an unmarked Forssell six yards out.
Spurs responded well though with Dimitar Berbatov thumping an effort against the post.
Paul Robinson produced a brilliant save to deny Forssell a second at the start of the second period but the home side grabbed two goals in four minutes to stun the Londoners.
Sebastien Larsson made it 2-0 with a 20-yard free-kick in the 55th minute while Forssell made the most of a defensive mix up from the visitors to score from close range.
The Finnish striker grabbed his hat-trick with nine minutes to go with another clinical finish, while Jermaine Jenas snatched a late consolation for Juande Ramos's side.
