Bolton 0 Portsmouth 1 February 09 2008

Portsmouth snatched an unlikely 1-0 win over Bolton with a disputed Lassana Diarra goal after Wanderers had wasted a string of chances.

Despite dominating the entire match there was no cutting edge to the Trotters with many of their openings falling to former Pompey midfielder Matt Taylor, the best of which saw him balloon the ball over an empty goal from Kevin Davies' 31st-minute cross.

The south coast club did not have a shot on target until the 79th minute, but seconds later they scored the winner.

Diarra drove forward and laid off a pass but as Andy O'Brien put in a tackle the ball appeared to rebound off Kanu and into the path of Diarra - clearly in an offside position - who drilled a shot past Jussi Jaaskelainen.

The Lancashire outfit had a chance to equalise late on when Gretar Steinsson crossed to Tamir Cohen, whose shot was superbly tipped over by David James.
