Portsmouth 1 Chelsea 1 February 02 2008

Jermain Defoe attained instant hero status as Portsmouth drew 1-1 with Chelsea to prevent the Blues setting a club record 10th straight win.

Milan Baros and Michael Ballack traded early efforts, before Petr Cech collected Niko Kranjcar's free-kick and another effort from Lassana Diarra.

The Croatian midfielder then headed Ballack's header off the line, while Pompey saw two penalty appeals waved away.

The hosts made a great start to the second half with Defoe forcing a good save from Cech, while the Czech goalkeeper parried Baros' follow-up.

But the visitors were ahead on 55 minutes when Florent Malouda's cross was knocked across goal by Joe Cole and Nicolas Anelka volleyed into the corner.

But Defoe hauled Pompey level on 64 minutes when he latched onto Baros' flick-on and slotted past Cech.

Both sides had good chances to win it but a draw is how it stayed.
