Bolton won away in the Premier League for the first time this season with a 2-0 success to leave Reading deep in relegation trouble.
The Royals made a bright start with Stephen Hunt, Leroy Lita and Kevin Doyle all failing to trouble Jussi Jaaskelainen with early chances.
But the Trotters hit back with Heidar Helguson heading wide, before they won a penalty when Marek Matejovsky tripped Gretar Steinsson in the area. But Marcus Hahnemann guessed correctly and pushed away Matt Taylor's spot-kick low down to his left.
However, Wanderers did take the lead after 33 minutes when Kevin Davies headed across goal and Kevin Nolan swept home.
The hosts did their best to hit back with Ivar Igimarsson wasting two chances either side of the interval before Bolton wrapped up the win when Helguson poked home after Taylor's initial shot had taken a deflection.
