Manchester United 2 Portsmouth 0 January 30 2008

Cristiano Ronaldo hit yet another two goals as Manchester United beat Portsmouth 3-1 at Old Trafford to return to the Premier League summit.

Emmanuel Adebayor had cut Ronaldo's lead at the top of the scoring charts to one after his goal on Tuesday, but it was quickly extended to three as Ronaldo scored twice in the opening 13 minutes.

His first came in the 10th minute when he played a neat one-two with Nani ended before coolly slotting past David James from eight yards.

He added a second with a magnificent 25-yard free-kick three minutes later and almost repeated the trick from a similar position before half-time, with James getting down low to turn around the post.

Wes Brown and Wayne Rooney missed chances before the interval and United continued their domination in the second period, although not even Ronaldo could find a third.
