Wayne Rooney suffered a serious-looking foot injury as champions Manchester United failed to find a way through after a draw with Reading.
With Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea all scrambling wins from their opening games, United immediately find themselves adrift after a game of missed chances.
The nearest they came to finding a way through was when Ryan Giggs' first-half volley struck the inside of the post, though man of the match Marcus Hahnemann pulled off a series of fine saves to deny the likes of Paul Scholes, Cristiano Ronaldo and Michael Carrick amongst others.
Rooney also missed two good openings before suffering his foot injury - sustained after a clash with Michael Duberry - with the striker failing to reappear for the second half.
Reading also lost Dave Kitson to a late red card, but it had no impact on the end result.
