Benni McCarthy was on target as Blackburn extended their unbeaten run to 14 games with a win over Manchester City at Ewood Park.

McCarthy made the breakthrough in the 13th minute when Kasper Schmeichel parried Roque Santa Cruz's header straight into the path of McCarthy, who scored from close range.

Blackburn twice came close to extending their lead before the interval, with Schmeichel pulling off good saves to deny Santa Cruz and Morten Gamst Pedersen.

However, City were offered a lifeline in the 53rd minute when Tugay was sent off after picking up two yellow cards in two minutes, for challenges on Mpenza and Dietmar Hamann.

But the visitors went down to 10 men themselves 12 minutes later when Richard Dunne was sent off after a lunge on Santa Cruz and Rovers held on for the three points.
