Fernando Torres scored his 20th Premier League goal of the season as Liverpool came from behind to beat struggling Reading 2-1 at Anfield.
Liverpool started at a frantic pace but they were stunned by the visitors after just five minutes when Marek Matejovsky met John Oster's free-kick from the left with a thunderous 20-yard volley that clipped the bar on the way into the top corner.
The Reds looked for a quick response and they got it in the 19th minute when Javier Mascherano drilled home from the edge of the area just as spectacularly as Matejovsky did 14 minute earlier.
Ryan Babel had a goal ruled out for offside before the interval but Liverpool scored what turned out to be the winner just a minute after the interval when Torres met Steven Gerrard's left-wing free-kick with a towering header beyond the dive of Marcus Hahnemann.
