Joleon Lescott grabbed a late winning goal as Everton took all three points at the Reebok Stadium in a 2-1 Premier League victory over Bolton.
Yakubu made the perfect start to his Everton career by tapping home from eight yards to finish a swift counter-attack on 11 minutes.
Soon after, El-Hadji Diouf had a penalty appeal turned down, and in the 40th minute, Mikel Alonso suddenly unleashed a powerful angled drive from 22 yards which crashed against the crossbar.
In the 55th minute, Bolton finally gained their reward.
Diouf was the supplier with a lofted ball in from the left and, although Phil Jagielka headed clear, Nicolas Anelka was on hand to volley home the equaliser off the underside of the crossbar.
But in the closing stages, Lescott rose in between Andy O'Brien and Jlloyd Samuel to nod home a Thomas Gravesen corner.
