Arsenal failed to regain top spot in the Premier League despite grabbing a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough at The Emirates.

Boro beat Arsene Wenger's troops 2-1 at The Riverside earlier this season, and came within four minutes of sealing a double after former Arsenal striker Jeremie Aliadiere tapped home Tuncay Sanli's left-wing cross on 25 minutes.

But defender Kolo Toure headed in an equaliser from Cesc Fabregas' corner on 86 minutes, with goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer at fault after fumbling the effort on his goalline under pressure.

And the visitors had to weather a storm of Arsenal pressure in stoppage time after Mido was harshly given a straight red for a high tackle on Gael Clichy.

Emmanuel Adebayor had a fourth-minute goal wrongly ruled out for offside as the ball had broken to him off George Boateng.
