Premier League leaders Arsenal maintained their superb start to the season with a hard-earned 1-0 win at West Ham courtesy of Robin van Persie.

Arsenal started well and inside the first two minutes Emmanel Adebayor drilled a low shot just wide, while Dean Ashton fired over.

Arsenal went ahead on 13 minutes. Alexander Hleb's centre flew across the six-yard box, with van Persie at the far post to glance a header in off the upright.

Matthieu Flamini tried his luck late in the first half with a low, 20-yard strike which Green saved.

On 54 minutes Green tipped a van Persie shot onto the post.

It then should have been 1-1 but Ashton headed straight at Manuel Almunia.

Ljungberg scored from Henri Camara's pass but it was flagged offside.

Green saved efforts from Gael Clichy and Flamini before van Persie cleared a header from Ashton as the Gunners closed out the match.
