Brian McBride headed a vital second-half winner as Fulham beat Everton at Craven Cottage to revive their hopes of Premier League survival.

The American striker coolly headed home his second league goal of the season in the 67th minute from 10 yards after a quick break down the left resulted in Simon Davies picking him out.

The first half was a cagey affair with two Aiyegbeni Yakubu efforts as close as either side came, but the game came to life after the break with McBride's effort the Cottagers' reward for some energetic play.

But Everton should have been level four minutes after McBride struck when Mikel Arteta's corner picked out the unmarked Joseph Yobo, who headed high and wide from eight yards.

Fulham could have sealed the win late on when Clint Dempsey and Eddie Johnson missed good chances, but the result was never in doubt.
